Is the Online Dating Experience the Same for Women and Men?

Is the Online Dating Experience the Same for Women and Men?

In the past 24 hours, I’ve had a glimpse at the dating experiences of two women—one in her 30s, the other in her 40s.  While they are at different stages in their lives and are very different people, their dating experiences seemed to amount to the same thing.  They both talked about how hard it is for women.  They admitted to not really understanding men at all, sometimes.  Both expressed a desire to be in relationships bound by some level of commitment, but they aren’t sure how to make it happen.  I have no doubt that there are many women who feel the same way and are at the same place in their lives.

What can women do to secure a committed relationship?

Some women are trying online dating services.  I’m sure this can’t be surprising.  Just research the statistics on the use and history of online dating services. The websites I’ve found place the start date for online dating services in the early 1990s.  I’m sure it was considered a unique or odd thing to do back then, but not today.  You probably know at least one person who is currently using one of these services.

Can online dating services work?

Forget about the statistics.  I’m willing to bet that you know at least one person who has met someone through an online dating service and married them.  This must mean it can work.  I’m not attesting to how often it works.   I’m just saying there’s proof that it can.

Is the online dating experience the same for women and men?

Solsticesisters will explore these questions and more in an upcoming series.  We’ll look at online dating from both a male and female point-of-view. .. Watch for it!

  1. Online dating is the newest and fastest way to meet people. It is easier and less expensive than paying cover at a club and buying drinks for people that after the drink may not be interested in your conversation. You can from the comfort of your home look through the “catalog” and select based on the photo or description, the person you’d like to know a little more about. If the initial chit chat goes well then comes the meet and greet. All this is still less expensive then a night out and the percentage of rejection is lowered which for some can cause anxiety and uneasiness. In the end makes the meeting experience a negative one.

Using online dating is a good source to meet people and have a great time, but if you are looking for a committed relationship it is the luck of the draw. It works for some and not for others. It all depends on the person you meet and whether you are both looking for the same thing.

I believe the experience varies depending on what a person is looking for and the potentials that come their way. Unfortunately the ratio between men and women gives women a larger disadvantage.

This is an interesting topic and I am looking forward to your series.

    1. Thanks for sharing your thoughts about online dating, Turquoise waters. I can appreciate your comments about the cost of dating online versus going out to a club. Your comments suggest that you’ve got some experience with this. I look forward to your feedback on the upcoming series.

    1. Thanks for affirming that online dating can work! I just checked out your blog. Your wing man post made me laugh and cringe at the same time. Now I have to push away a few flash backs of my own.
