A Cup of Holiday Cheer

A Cup of Holiday Cheer

If you’ve been following the “Holiday Song of the Week” posts, then you already know about my love affair with the holiday season, especially holiday music!  There are so many reasons why I love, love, love this time of year, but I only want to tell you about one of them today.

20121109_120504Silk Soy Nog! I know. It’s crazy.  The little things really do mean so much!  I was truly surprised and delighted to find it on the shelf at my neighborhood grocery store yesterday.  About three weeks ago, I began to ask anyone working in the store when I could expect to get some soy nog.  I tried to be patient.  I really did, but I didn’t like the nonchalant attitudes and crazy looks I received.  Clearly, no one I spoke with understood how important this was to me.  I knew I’d been obsessing too much about this, but it couldn’t be helped.  All the holiday music had put me in the mood for it.  So earlier this week, I skipped the usual conversation about the whereabouts of the nog with the cashier.  Instead, I asked to speak with the store manager about ordering some right away.  I told the manager that their competitor was already stocking the nog.  This didn’t seem to bother him. I went on to let him know that their new sister store, located only a mere mile or so down the street, had told me they’d be carrying the nog early this year.  This didn’t yield the result I was looking for either.  Finally, I ranted about how I didn’t want to have to go down the street when I only live two blocks away from this store, but that I would take my business to their brand new, much larger, much brighter, and much more accommodating sister store if I couldn’t get the nog here!  I was ready to walk out. I felt like I was wasting my time.  I was already running late and really needed to get to work.  I had to decide on what was most important to me in that moment:  getting to work early or getting the nog I wanted.  I stayed put.  Then, the winds shifted and the manager asked how many nogs I wanted and if I wanted to be called when the order arrived.

You know what?  I didn’t receive a call and that’s okay because the nog was there waiting—just for me—the next time I walked into the store three days later.  So for the past 24 hours, I’ve enjoyed a few cups of holiday cheer along with my holiday music. Can this holiday season get any better?  I’ve got a good feeling about it, but we’ll just wait and see…
